  Hollie Grima

At 190cm tall Hollie Grima has proven that her dreams are well within reach!

23 yr old Hollie has recently been awarded with WNBLs 2006/07 Most Valuable Player. A nice little accolade, but not only that she has also been integral as part of the winning Womens Basketball team at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and at the 2006 World Championships in Brazil!

It was history making stuff - the first time an Australian basketball team has won either a World Championships or an Olympics.

“It was an amazing feeling waiting to go up on the podium knowing we got the gold and knowing we had friends and family watching us on TV and share the moment with us. It was a buzz!”

But it didn’t always look easy, the team of 12 didn’t actually get together until 1 week before they arrived in Brazil.

“We probably had one of the worst preparations out of all the teams in terms of being together as a group, but we gelled really well because we had a great time socialising as well as playing basketball.”

“We always knew we were going to be really competitive, the Australians always have been. We knew we had a great chance and Australia has some of the best players in the world. We knew if they played well and everyone else could step up around them, then we had a really good chance”.

Not a bad career so far for someone that 10 years before almost opted out of her basketball career.

“When I was offered the scholarship at the institute of sport in Canberra, I said to Mum and Dad that I was not going. They were shocked and said if you don’t go you will always live to regret it. If you go and you don’t like it you can always come home. You don’t want to be sit down in 10 years and say “what if”.

So what’s the message here?
Maybe you are faced with a decision that might just be the start of something huge and you are not sure about whether you are capable of it...

What would it mean for you to take the step and give it a go?
