  Jam Donuts Recipe

Jam doughnuts! – you can cook your own at home.

What sort of doughnuts do you like?
Are you like Hommer and like the ones with a hole and icing!?
Or are you a die hard warm jam cinnamon and sugar doughnut fan?

Heres a great recipe, to try out, - its better if you have a bread machine, but if you find someone with lots of muscle to kneed the dough, you can easily do it without one too!

This recipe makes about 13-15 Doughnuts.

Add to bread bin:
Milk 300ml
Butter melted 4 tablespoons
Eggs 2x60g
Sugar 3 tablespoons
White Bread flour 4 cups
Yeast 2 teaspoons

To complete:
Strawberry jam 4 tablespoons
Vegetable oil for cooking
Sugar 4 tablespoons
Ground cinnamon 1 tablespoon

Bread machine:
Set the bread machine onto the setting “dough” and head off for about 1.5hours while it does its stuff.

No bread machine?
If you don’t have a bread machine, kneed the dough for about 20mins, and leave for about 10 mins, then kneed for another 20mins. Leave to rise.

Next, put dough on floured bench and divide up.

Easy way to do it is to divide dough in half with a sharp knife then in half again and again, stop your division depending on how big you want your doughnuts! Don’t fiddle with them much, cos its good to keep as much air in them as possible. Place them onto a greased tray and cover them with a tea towel and leave for about an hour to rise in a warm room.

When doughnuts have doubled in size (or thereabouts) cook them in hot, oil, a few at a time until golden brown and cooked through. You need to stand over them constantly and turn them when one side is done.

Have some paper towel on hand and place the cooked doughnuts on their before coating them in the sugar cinnamon mixture.

The fun bit is putting in the jam! You need to get a plastic sauce bottle with a screw off lid. (the ones with a pointy end) Scoop the jam into the bottle. Place bottle without lid into the microwave for very short bursts on medium to get the jam soft enough to squirt into the middle of each doughnut. Try 20seconds, it’s a cruel mess if you leave it too long!

You will fin you have made the best most yummiest home made doughnuts that will not taste homemade at all!

Everyone will think you’re a pro, - yummo!
